Just got my first monstera a couple weeks ago and I absolutely love it! I was watering it today and found little brown spots on the leaves. It seems to be doing good and has new grown though. Is it sun burn? It’s currently hanging in a window that gets direct sunlight till about 11 am and I’ve been watering per planta’s schedule.

Could be an early sign of pests, unfortunately. Sunburn on plants tends to turn big parts of the leaves a yellow/white bleached color or huge crispy brown parts. So I’d rule that out as a possibility in this case

The other commenter did have a good point about humidity. Some plants can damage their own leaves a little as they unfurl if the humidity is low. Is that a factor for your plant? Otherwise, I would look into some kind of pest treatment for houseplants. There are natural methods that can be slower to work, but safer for people and pets. It doesn’t look like a bad infestation based on the pictures, so I think gentler methods would be good personally. But a lot of people on Planta don’t mind more conventional methods and have products they swear by. Depends on your preference

What pest are you thinking here??

Something very small that affects young leaves. Thrips or spider mites are two possibilities. I’m not dead-set on thinking that’s what’s causing the small damaged spots, but I think it’s best to not ignore possible early indicators. In my experience, it’s much harder to treat pests after they become an obvious infestation. Hopefully it turns out to just be a little damage from something much less bothersome!

I wouldn’t worry too much. I don’t think this is pests. Adansonii need very hiiiigh humidity and prefer bright indirect. (east or west facing windows) that being said, i had mine in a south facing for a while and initially it bleached but the new growth adapted and i have nice big, dark green leaves now 😊💚

If you’re misting I would stop doing that altogether — but if you insist/are really concerned about humidity, only mist in the morning, never during the brightest parts of the day when it can burn your leaves, and not at night either when water can collect and cause rot and/or fungal infections
