ms Pac-Man

This plant was once thriving and I haven’t changed anything about its care routine or location, any ideas what it needs to perk back up?

    that soil looks very very dense. monstera are prone to root rot. i would repot into chunkier soil asap, and turn it around so it faces the window. it gets more light that way

    What the other comments said; ^^ Also I’d recommend downsizing the pot. It could too big, when did you pot it into that pot?

      We’ve changed out the soil a couple times at least but it’s been in this sized pot for 2+ years

    The thing about root rot is that it looks pretty much the same as overwatering on the surface because in both cases the plant can’t get water up from the soil since root rot destroys the root tissue. When you repot into a chunkier mix, I’d recommend checking on the roots and removing any that are squishy or shriveled and dead. Healthy roots should be able to withstand a gentle tug. Rotten roots will pull off like limp noodles. Remove all rotting tissue. It will not recover snd the plant is better off growing new roots. If you leave rotten tissue, the new roots will inevitably rot as well. Monstera are very robust though, I saved my monstera from root rot when I first took it into my collection! If the roots are rotten you can always remove them all and restart. That’s how I grew this monstera!

      Here’s one of the stalks for reference that I just took out, roots aren’t squishy or dead but they don’t seem healthy either ….. any thoughts?

      The roots look pretty good overall so I think your plant will bounce back well after the repot! I’m happy you didn’t see any root rot, but I do think it’s still good to have pulled it out so this could be confirmed. What size pot are you going to put this in? And what type of pot (plastic? Terracotta? Decorative?
