Hey monstera enthusiasts. I just got a new Thai constellation yesterday from Home Depot, it’s my first ever monstera. It was shipped from out of state and was in a shipping box for about 5 days. Is there anything special I need to do for it to help it acclimate? I have it about a foot away from a vertical standing grow light at the moment and I’m wondering if that’s too much light too soon out of a dark box. I’m also wondering if I should repot right away or not. It’s currently in a medium I don’t recognize and I’m always wary of the soil at big box stores especially since they’re notorious for overwatering. I generally like to pot my aroids in Grow Queen’s Craft Aroid Mix because I’ve had a lot of success with it for philodendrons as well as non-aroid plants that require a breathable, chunky mix. The other reason I’m questioning repotting right away is because the back of the plant is pushed right up to the edge of the pot with no support. They did include a bamboo stick that’s pushed into the soil, but the placement doesn’t really make sense to me, it’s not really in a position where it’s doing anything to support the plant right now. All advice and care tips are welcome!

Well you are correct that pole isnt doing anything. But i do think it will be fine while it adjusts to your home. You could always leave it and move the stick to the back of the plant to support it for now. It's a beautiful plant.

I don’t have a Thai (jealous), only a Deliciosa. But when I bought mine, I let it acclimate a few days then repotted and separated multiple stems. You obviously don’t need to do that, but I agree, that support pole should be right at the back of the stem and secured to the stem (not a petiole). I use a Velcro tie. My two large ones sit at an east facing window and also supplemented with grow lights. Yours look beautiful! Good luck!

I really appreciate your input. I thought it was kind of funny that just sorta plunked the support pole in a completely random spot 🤣 I’ll let it be for a bit and then try to sort out the support situation. Great setup, btw!

That spill looks like coco that is overtaken by the roots. I would repot her in a couple weeks and keep an eye on your watering. Godspeed! 💚

I would make sure you have a good watering routine, and definitely repot in a few weeks with better soil and a bigger pot. It will need a humidifier for long term and I would honestly put her on a wooden trellis / plank instead of that pole as that would be better for its aerial roots to grow up on.
