Hi friends I have some questions because I don’t want to mess up with my monstera. I have had this baby for about 3yrs. I bought it when my previous Monstera died on me. So the reason my previous Monstera died, she needed to be repotted. I follow all the instructions and she did not thrive at all. Now, I’m a little bit skeptical because before I did that with my previous Monstera, she was fine. She was thriving and it was time to repot her and I messed up. All to say, I am coming to all my Monstera maniacs because this is my dream plant and I don’t want to kill her. I had had her for three years she came in this self watering pot, which I found it ideal for her and maybe this is a reason why she has thrive for so long. Now, no offense but I need my monster pros. The ones that knows what they’re doing. Please respond This is a 911 Monstera call lol 😂

    What size of pots did you go from and to on the last one? If you put it in too large of a pot then it would have risked root. It also depends on what substrate you repotted it into, if you didn’t do a nice chunky soil it probably suffocated the roots or also could have caused root rot. It helps to know what you did last time to know how you went wrong to save you from doing it this time.

      I always repot my plants 1-2 inches when is time to change their pots. I used chunky mixed as-well. Now, when that happens to me with my first Monstera was about a little two years ago then I bought this one and I have been very careful of everything that I do with her from cleaning watering feeding all that jazz. I had had this one for three years like I mentioned in my post and I have never repotted her.

      Now that I went back to my pictures from the previous Monstera, I think I did fail my problem was actually the pot where I used to repot her. So thank you for the advice and for mentioning that to me. But typically, I do want 2 inches when I’m repotting my plant I think it was because at the time I didn’t have any specific pot and every time I went to the stores to buy that type of pot they were either very expensive or with no holes at the bottom something happen I know for sure.

    Here is a care list just in case , I do agree you could have put it in a too large pot make sure it’s only 1-2 inches bigger then the rootball. Monstera (Swiss cheese plant) Light - bright indirect light Watering - when the top two layers are dry (once or twice a week) Fertilizer- light tropical houseplant fertilizer with every watering (or as said on label for best results) Soil - chunky soil mix Pot - 1-2 inches bigger then the rootball (monsteras like being in small pots) Humidity- 60-70% (recommended but higher is better) Support - most recommend is a moss pole but you don’t necessarily always need support Common issues (not full list) - overwatering , sun damage.

      No problem, when I first got into plants I was so nervous about killing my monsteras because they are my personal favorite. I hope yours keeps growing strong!
