My baby girl—I’m so in love with her! I’m a little bit of a newbie with plants and just attached her to this coconut coir pole yesterday, did I do that right?

She’s a cutie! But I would change the placement of the ties. The leaf that you currently have tied to the pole is the one with the baby leaf emerging; and it is likely the baby leaf will be damaged by the ties. I would either 1. Wait for the baby leaf to fully emerge & harden off, then tie the original leaf to the pole. 2. Untie the current leaf and tie the leaf directly to its left (or the one it grew out of) to the pole. Either of these options will keep the baby leaf from being damaged. My go to is to always have the second newest leaf tied to the pole, that way the baby leaf can emerge without getting caught up. 😊 I hope this helps.
2개 좋아요Thank you! I originally tied the leaf that is tied now because she was leaning really really bad

make sure to only tie the stems to the pole (where the arrows are pointing), not the petiole (what connects the leaf to the stem)! tying it the way you have it right now will cause problems down the road, as it restricts the plant’s leaf movement and they should be free to move!
좋아요 1개Can you point out on my plant where the best place to tie would be? I thought poles were for support and this leaf was leaning over all of the other ones whereas I would love to have her grow up tall. How would it be supported if I tied from the bottom? Again, so sorry! Very much new to all of this.
좋아요 1개the stems give the plant strength. the petioles freely move and rotate to find the sun. once your plant is tied at the stem it will feel the support, and should help the rest of the plant move to rest on the pole, with leaves facing outward. essentially your pole is going to become the backside of the plant, and everything else will grow up and forward from it, if that makes sense haha.

좋아요 1개Soooo glad you changed the ties to some thing not wire. I’ve seen so many mature plants with bad injuries from wire that was left on them while they were growing.
2개 좋아요Ohhh no, yes I thought about that and that’s why I retied it with Velcro instead

좋아요 1개Just a suggestion I think you should push the pole more into the soil so the plant that is growing a new aerial root goes into the pole
좋아요 1개I was nervous about potentially running into the roots, I read not to push it all the way to the bottom of the pot
