Hello! Just looking for some advice on Monsterra support/poles, as I’ve seen many with them. My Monsterra is getting quite big and wanted to start thinking/planning for future growth. I have two main 2 questions: - When do you know your Monsterra is ready for a support/pole. - what is the best form of support for a Monsterra?
I think you can add a support, even if it’s just a small stake/skewer, once the plant has a “back” to it. I don’t have much experience but recently added a coco pole to my Thai constellation. Apparently these are good but the plant will only put its aerial roots into/around it if you keep it moist! I’ve seen people have good results with trellises!

you could also try a wood plank for lower maintenance. i got a nice acacia one on etsy for my thai con bc i have no self control, but they’ll grow on anything they can root on/in, even a tree branch lol advice if this is your first time using a pole/plant support: make sure you put it in the back of the plant (monsteras have a back, where the aerial roots come out), face the front of the plant toward the light so it doesn’t grow funky, and only tie the stem to the support not the petiole (see pic for example of tying the stem only, found on google)
I just switched from coco pole to a moss pole I purchased from Rousseau plant care and in just 1 week I have 4 new aerial roots sprouting due to the moisture the moss pole provides. I didnt have any luck w the coco pole and getting it to retain moisture. This Rousseau method allows for easier propagation when you’re ready, the climbing support necessary and the moisture required. Very happy w my results! Hope this helps 🤍
I wish I had the patience with these moss poles they work great but I’m too lazy to keep them moist, yours looks amazing!

I’ve seen monsteras climbing palm trees at theme parks in California so you could do a wooden stake or do the moss/coir pole route. I had a moss pole but it rotted so I think I’ll use a stake in the future.
3개 좋아요 I have mine on a small homemade moss pole but never bothered keeping it moist it was just for support when it was still small, the roots grew into it on their own. Once mine got bigger it has put out so many big aerial roots that help to support it. Looks a bit ugly atm because I’m getting ready to do a big chop lol
It’s lovely! You’re doing a lot right over there with large hardy root system and large leaves!

I used just a basic green, garden stake for a few years. Then I got this stupid idea to get a live moss pole, big mistake. Not only did I not think about how top heavy it would make the plant, but so much upkeep. So today I just got a small little trellis for her. But my little green pole worked just fine!! Here is a pic of her with the green pole, and then today with her new trellis.
Just ordered some of these from an Etsy shop & I’m really liking them so far ♥️
