I split up the monstera I had into four because I read that they prefer to fly solo. From the four in one big pot, each one went into to a smaller clear nursery pot. Two each have their own window and the other two are under a grow light. All of them have sprouted a new leaf and also have aerial roots that are growing out. These seem like good signs but I thought they’d be devoting energy to their repotted root system. Anyone have any thoughts, insights, or care tips to share?
The plants only going to make as much root as it needs to keep what it grows alive and growing. Those aerial roots are part of the root system just as much as the normal roots are, they will eventually try to lodge in the soil or something supportive and slowly gather nutrients and water from their environment (which is why so many people do moss poles). After the new leaves mature and it starts another set you’ll probably see much more noticeable growth in the root ball.

2개 좋아요 That’s tragic I’m so sorry. I’ve never heard that before but it sounds frustrating. I use moss poles, bamboo sticks, (and nothing on the baby one yet)
You can prune the aerial roots if you don’t like how they look, but it slows the growth down on the overall plant and keeps the leaves smaller

Do a cedar plank much better and doesn’t get moldy!
Definitely support needed. I used a wood dowel and wrapped it in burlap for my monsters. They all love it. I also used concrete to make sure the bottom was heavy enough but my biggest monstera is named Dolly because she’s top heavy.
