In need of some professional Monsty Mothers/Papas. My Monstera Deliciosa has a very bushy undergrowth area and I’m worried it’s not allowing him to thrive up in the air as much l as I would want from him. Will this be the case, I don’t see many others looking as bushy as mine and I really want him to grow another big leaf as he hasn’t yet since I got him. His name is Monty He’s in a 25cm plastic drainage pot with regular potting mix (got some bark and perlite on order to upgrade him to a more airy mix when next repot) Desperately under qualified for a Monstera but can’t hate a tryer!

It just depends on how you want your plant to look. I like to cut those little leaves underneath because they do take up energy from the plant and get shaded out by the bigger leaves. If you feel comfortable cutting those leaves off as close as you can to the stems, that’s what I do. That allows my monstera to focus on the larger leaves and new growth from the top. Making sure your plant has enough light also helps the plant grow larger leaves. If it doesn’t have enough light it will continue to push out smaller leaves or same size leaves with less to no fenestration. You can also check to see if your plant is getting root bound and might need a pot size up. You can trim your plant when you change out the soil to something more chunky and check the roots then as well. Your plant is still alive and well so you are doing amazing!

Your Monty the Monstera seems the same as my Monty the Monstera! Large form monstera kinda just do this when they’re young and/or not getting enough light - popped my boy under a grow light 14 hours a day + indirect natural light and he’s finally putting out nice, big fenestrated leaves! They need time to mature and LOTS of light. I have a moss pole in my large form monstera that he’s finally chosen to start climbing, which also helps with larger leaves! :) But Monty looks really healthy and happy, you should be proud!
