plantgeekdepends on the roots. wait until the root ball fills the pot.

for monstera, i check every summer just to see how it's developing, but i only need to repot every 2-3 years. when it starts growing much slower or you see roots growing out of drainage holes, that's when you repot.

SamI've noticed my big Monstera will start needing watered a lot more frequently when it's time for me to start looking for a new home for it. And of course like plant geek said watching for the growth to slow dramatically or roots to literally start coming out the bottom of the drain holes. My Monstera adensonia mint is a juvenile still so transplanted a bit more often. Until a couple of months ago it was in a clear pot which had been set inside of a decorative catchment pot. I went to dump the water out of the catchment and realized two thick roots had not only grown out the drain hole but were a couple of feet long and encircling the space between the nursery pot and the catchment pot. Needless to say I transplanted it.

So I ended repotting Athena. Her pot had one drain hole. And her root ball was small but healthy!!!😳 I added more holes because pot is a good size for her to grow and chunky soils. Fingers crossed she doesn’t unalive on me from shock!!!!
