I just brought a new Monstera and it’s so beautiful. There are some exposed roots and I’m wondering if this is okay or if I should do something about it. I’m not sure if they are aerial roots or not but any suggestions or input is appreciated 😄

i would repot immediately. those exposed roots at the top do need to be buried for the plant to thrive— they are soil-adjusted roots. the media also looks quite dense, like greenhouse soil, and this isn’t ideal for monstera. i’d recommend getting a wooden plank or trellis as support. you may need a bigger pot as well. since these plants have a “face” where the leaves grow and a “back” where the aerial roots grow, i’d recommend detangling the roots and rearranging the stems so their backs are against the support. if you’d like to keep it crawling there’s no need for any of that but most people prefer them climbing. whatever you choose, be sure your new soil is very well draining, i use 1 part fir bark chips to 1 part perlite to 1 part potting soil. monstera are prone to root rot so i always let the soil dry out completely between waterings as well.

It also looks like there are three separate plants in that pot. I would separate them during your repot so they are not competing for space long term.

I will look into doing that in the spring during growing season. I just wanted to get those roots down into the soil for now
