Hi! I purchased this Monstera Albo cutting almost a week ago and am worried about the roots, does this look like root rot? There is an aerial root further up the stem so I am not sure the best way to propagate - any tips appreciated!

Hey there! For my own albo, I found only keeping a small amount of water in the prop vase worked best. When I completely submerged the whole aerial root, it led to the start of rot. I would keep a small bit of water in there so the plant only works on creating roots on one aerial root instead of multiple. In my experience, it will root quicker that way! It also looks like it has a small bit of root rot, but you can cut that off, allow it to callus over for a few hours before putting it back into the water, so there is no soft, susceptible flesh on the roots that may rot further

I have switched over to mostly only soil propagation. Better for the plants and no transfer from water to soil shock. Water prop displays look cute and are popular but most plants do better with soil propagation. They have to create a whole new root system for soil as water roots they form while water propagating are different, which is why they have a hard time transitioning when you plant them in soil after water propping. PlantyAnn user on here propagates in only perlite and has success. I do soil. You can transfer it to perlite first to reduce shock to soil too.
