Hi there, new plant mama here. So I bought a piece of a monstera a few months ago and everything had been just fine until recently… So I got a new leaf coming in & it’s turning black :/ could this be a result of overwatering? If so, why are none of the other leaves turning color? Should I just repot with different soil? Any advice would be helpful (:

Others might have better advice, I have only owned a monstera for a short while, but I found mine was because it wasn’t humid enough where i had her, so maybe try increasing humidity?

this is quite common (i’ve seen several posts), it’s caused by a lack of nutrients. monstera appreciate low dose fertilizer with every watering, and if you haven’t fertilized in a while new growth will die off. add some liquid fertilizer and the plant will likely grow new, healthier leaves in a few weeks. i’d also suggest adjusting the support so that the back of the plant is against it. monstera deliciosa have a “face” where the leaves grow and a “back” where the aerial roots grow from

Definitely going to have to add fertilizer to my plant care routine. Thank you for the tips!

What fertilizer do you use and and do you recommend fertilizing only in spring/summer?

Fertilizer can definitely help but I saw this exact same thing in my monstera and it was the result of overwatering, monsteras are prone to root rot and other such things and so it is very important to let your soil dry out almost all the way-all the way depending, they are decently drought resistant so some gentle experimenting with your watering routine could be very beneficial!
