Hi y’all! I’m normally a Pothos Parent and I got a Monstera in October of 2022. Now here’s the question: they are VERY top heavy which I wasn’t expecting. What are your tips or products for me to best keep him up and help him out? I’m McGivering over here to keep myself from running into the leaves or having the pot fall over!

Hi Cloud! He needs a sturdier pot, plastic won’t do. When you repot him later this summer (if he wasn’t repotted when you got him, otherwise next summer), put him in ceramic, terracotta, stone, heavy vinyl, or something else sturdy. He also needs a longer moss pole. Your pole should be at the back of the plant (where all the aerial roots are coming from) and reach your tallest leaves, or taller if he’s growing rapidly, so you don’t have to switch it out too soon.

Or you can just buy a heavy pot to place his plastic pot in! That’s what I do.

A few things. There’s two plants in there and they’re facing different directions. The next time you repot, you should bring them closer together and face them the same direction. Place the moss pole behind them, where the aerial roots are. Also, don’t upsize the pot too much if you have to. I made that mistake when I first got mine. Make sure it’s well draining- a lot of people suggest an aroid mix.

Oh thank you!!!! I was actually wondering about that because I realised it was growing “two ways” and I wasn’t sure how to go about it with the moss pole.
