I know it was a year ago that I got this guy at LOWES and their outdoor, back of store, grave yard discount Clearance rack.
However it was not until February 2024 that I began to journal the plant in Planta.
The app tells me this front stair is too much light for the plant. Which is odd since someone here told me they are tropical plants of the Hawaiian Islands..
The “too bright” warning in just so incorrect all of the time here in this house. For the location where this guy is sitting, he will get “direct” sunlight from 1PM to 4PM. At 1PM the sun will appear over the house. It is shaded and the shade gets bigger each week. Same thing for when the sun hides behind the homes across the street.
I’m glad the plant looks so good but I do not think it or I will make it through another Winter unstressed.
Any easy advice for when I do need to bring this guy in doors?

Announcer:
Just like the migrations of the Walrus populations seen in San Francisco, or the population of the Monarch butterflies, we begin to witness one of the other large migrations, quite possibly the largest.
As the days grow shorter, and the nights longer, the plant world begins its great migration towards the best or longest source of light for the dwindling season of light. This strange migration not only moves along a horizontal plane but also on a vertical plane as the plant world does everything possible to remove itself from the shade of the other structures that may block the sun.
And the most amazing thing is no one knows how they all get to the same migration spot year after year after year.

Ugg it’s not even October 1st yet!
Why do I keep bringing you all in here?
March 1st is 6 months away and the rest of the plant world inhabitants, the big ones, aren’t even hear yet. You all are taking up too much room already!
Calgon take me away!

how insane is this leaf? at least twice the size of the last new one (which was the first new one in my care and twice as large as the one before it)
recently moved it out from under the grow light. these get yellow/lime colored with lots of light and it’s not the vibe i’m going for — it looks ill! (i swear it’s not lol) hoping east-facing keeps her nice and verdant but doesn’t result in small leaves 🤞

Newly obsessed
Saw that it’s national plant week so that’s an excuse to add two more to our collection my husband picked the fern and named it ferny and I got the elephants ears.
They have been treated and are currently in time out.
But I’m curious where I should put them.
Attached are my current plant areas

Every time I buy a new plant (I have 12 in my bedroom bc I live with my parents) I think to myself “is this becoming an unhealthy obsession?” But then I see you beautiful people on this app and I remember that some of you have like 300 plants in one room.
