Peperomia appreciation post! đŸ„° They’ve become a quick favorite for me. Feel free to turn this into a thread to share all your peperomias đŸŒ± (For anyone wondering, in order they should be: peperomia obtusifolia with marble variegation, peperomia clusiifolia red margin, watermelon peperomia, and variegated peperomia obtusifolia “sweet and sour”)

I just picked up a pepetomia obtusifolia and the soil is sopping wet. Should I just let it dry out or would I be better off changing the soil? I'm afraid of root rot as I've killed these before despite how easy they are supposed to be!

Given the winter weather, you’ll probably want to let it dry out and get acclimated to your home before repotting it. While the obtusifolia is not prone to shock like its caperata counterparts and other more tropical plants, it’s generally best to let the plant acclimate in general. If it takes an eon for it to dry out in the next week or so, though, you’ll probably wanna repot it after letting it acclimate for 2 weeks to a month (depending on how cold it is in your neck of the woods. I live in PA, so I’d wait closer to a month before repotting anything, but if you’re not experiencung any cold temps atm and to come, you could probably survive repotting it in 2 weeks). In the meantime, I’d take the time to grab whatever repotting supplies you need. I definitely understand the fear of impending root rot from the soggy soil, so I’d recommend grabbing some hydrogen peroxide in case you find any rot when you repot it, Bonide’s Rooting Hormone Powder to help regrow any roots and reduce the risk of repot shock, and some cactus mix. I swear by Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent Mix for my peperomias, but any cactus mix (nothing miracle grow brand) or epiphytic mix should do.

Your plants are beautiful and look so healthy! I have a few Peperomias, but the ones I love the most are the Peperomia caperata cayenne and Peperomia Ginny (or Jellie)

I love caperata cayennes! đŸ„° They’ve got such a beautiful burgundy to them. If you’re ever looking for another one, I got mine at Ott’s Exotic Plants 😉
