This is crazy! I just picked this spider plant up from my local shop today and it took forever to detangle these roots

    This is the typical root system for spider plants. They will grow more roots just like this after detangling. They like a snug pot. It’s ok to keep it this tangled after repotting. The plant will fill in the new pot with roots. Also, the thick roots can break while separating spider plants. I would let the exposed root sections callous over before replanting.

    Actually it looks like you have 3 or 4 plants there. I would break them apart from the top where you can see the different plants. Then repot each plant in a snug pot and you’ll have 3 or 4 beautiful spider plants. Just a suggestion. It’s what I did with one of my big ones last fall and it’s already refilling the pot. I’m going to take the other apart as soon as I can do it outside. I give away most of the plant and save one to repot.
