My jade plant has been thriving for the past year. A few weeks ago, it went all floppy! It’s still producing new leaves and looks perfectly healthy. Should I prop it up or let it trail?

If it’s a trailing jade, there’s no need to prop it up. If it isn’t, definitely give it some support!

Any idea how I can tell which it is? Thanks!

I think yours is a trailing jade :) the leaves are flatter and it clearly has a trailing habit. I would say leave it be

Check the root system before doing anything

Hmm…jade plants typically grow up and out, they don’t trail. The stems will get hard to prevent them from falling over (unless they get top heavy and need to be repotted like mine did). My guess is it’s getting too much water and the soil’s not drying out enough. The roots could be rotting or the leaves are taking in more water than they need. It also might not be getting enough sunlight. I’d say short term, give it support. Dial back the water, give it more sun. After a couple months, try removing the support so it can stand on its own.

Thank you. I’ll check the roots.

This is a picture of my trailing jade, I don’t think that is what your plant is. Sometime they get top heavy, or it might benefit with more light.

Oh wow! You’re right, mine doesn’t look like a trailing jade after all.
