Hi fern friends šŸ˜ I have two gorgeous ferns that I bought on clearance for $5 each at a farmers market in the summer. They are still thriving. But I feel like I need to change the cadence of watering indoors versus outdoors. How do I keep my fluffy girls happy indoors as they were outside? How often should I water? The planta app continues to aggressively ask me to water all my plants and I’ve had to battle fungus gnats a few times listening to the app. Should I buy a moisture gauge? Here are my girls Justice and Truth.

They look so luscious!! I have a similar fern (Boston), and I find my planta app watering recommendations to be pretty accurate. Mine withstands a day or 2 late on watering, but when that happens I definitely notice her green color has gotten paler, and then brightens/deepens again a little bit after watering. If plants says to water, but they’re bright in color and the pots still feel heavy when you pick them up (im basing this on plastic nursery pots), i’d say to leave the watering task until they actually need watering

Would definitely say mine likes watering every other day in higher temp seasons, and then it gets down to around 1-2 times a week in colder seasons

Do you have your plants listed in their new site (indoors) on Planta since you’ve brought them in? That should adjust their watering schedule. Also, bringing plants inside from outside can always bring in fungus gnats. I use mosquito dunks in my watering can. I put half of one in the jug and I always have water in it so that the mosquito dunk is treating the water that I use to water my plants. This will kill fungus gnat larvae and keep them from populating. You need sticky traps to capture the adults. I always bring my outdoor to indoor plants into the garage for purgatory for a few days until I know they don’t have a gnat problem. I also begin watering my outdoor to indoor plants with the dunk water for the first couple weeks outside before I transition them in. Hope these things help!

Yes I’ve transitioned locations on the planta app. That’s a great idea about watering them with mosquito dunks water for the first few weeks too just in case. I’m going to try doing that to be safe
