Does anyone know what’s wrong with my rattlesnake? Leaves are going yellow/brown and crispy

    Irregular watering. You should clip the crispy leaves so the plant can put its energy into making new leaves. You may also want to repot it to look at the roots but calatheas don’t really like their roots messed with so be careful with the healthy roots & only trim ones that look mushy and rotted (if any). Make sure to water with distilled or spring water (or rain water) once a week & mist the top soil every day or every other day. I hope it bounces back!

      that’s some awful watering advice! if you’re watering any plant weekly and misting the top soil every day you’re very likely to cause root rot, even if it is a water-loving plant

      Works for my rattlesnake lol I mist her all the time & water once a week. Making sure your soil drain’s properly is important.

    do you use chlorinated tap water for this plant? if so i’d recommend filtering and treating your tap water first with some aquarium water conditioner. i use that or rainwater but many people will recommend distilled water as well. these plants are really sensitive to excess chemicals and minerals in their soil so the purer the water the better; i’d recommend flushing the soil thoroughly once the top 1/2” or so has dried. always wait for the topsoil to dry before watering again to prevent rot

    I agree with P. Father. on the water source. Distilled or treated water is the way to go with calatheas. They also like high humidity. Once I got a humidifier to keep the RH at 50% and changed to distilled water, I stopped having issues with crispy leaves. What kind of potting medium are you using? Kind of hard to tell from the pic, but it looks a bit dense and swampy. My calatheas are doing well in a chunkier potting medium with added coarse perlite for aeration and increased water drainage. How often are you watering and how much light is the plant getting?
