My first prayer plant. I’ve had this guy for a few months now and after a few weeks of having next to a cracked east-facing window I realized it didn’t like the sun or the draft. I’ve moved it out of direct sunlight and closed the windows now that it’s starting to get colder but it’s been in its new spot for a few weeks now and it doesn’t seem to be improving. I tried a few things for overwatering as well more recently. I’m only giving tap water at the moment but misting every few days and now watering only when the soil is dry. Can it recover or did I kill this plant?

    It can recover but will need some serious babying. Sounds like you know they prefer distilled or rainwater, lots of humidity, and you got the light/temp squared away. I’ve “killed” a few calatheas to the point of becoming leafless, but when I go toss them discover the roots are good with little stem buds showing up.

      Also check for pests- they won’t help anything.

    Calathea don’t like to dry out completely. They are tropical plants that live under a canopy. It’s good you moved it. It will come back. Think rainforest. Loves water but not wet feet. Give it a chunky mix. Dappled light. 👍🏾
