My paphiopedilum (QF Spacewalk) flower spike is opening! This is the first flower the plant has produced. Super excited to finally see what the flower looks like. I purchased the plant at an orchid show back in April and had no idea what it was going to look like 😊
I need help! She was given to me as a birthday present, and I am pretty sure she has root rot
Need advice/guidance for my new, young catts: Cattleya Alaorii & C. Walkeriana hybrid (Fantasia Aleluia x Tokyo - starter orchid) 1st two pics: Cattleya Alaorii … could I just pot this up w/fresh sphag moss? Last 2 pics: C. Walkeriana hybrid(Fantasia Aleluia x Tokyo - starter) … not sure if there are any new roots. Top w/fresh sphag moss? (I removed napkin packaging from being shipped) Both will be going into an indoor, mini greenhouse. Surrounded by north-facing windows w/Barina grow lights. Central Valley, California 75°F indoors
Have no clue why my orchid is doing this. It was growing very very well and all of a sudden the bulbs are turning yellow and dying. What do I do?
Anyone else have that one orchid that never lets you down? Photo on top is late Jan beginning to bloom, bottom left almost full bloom late March, and bottom right additional growth and new blooms in early June. Almost 6 months of flowers!
I bought 2 more orchids (the ones with flowers) I have questions. My cat knocked over the purple and white one and the stem with most of the flowers broke off. Will it grow again? Also, ideas on how to make them both continue to bloom. I did give them orchid food the first day I brought them home. Do I do it weekly? Also, the orchid I did have for a few years ago (last picture) is showing signs of improvement since I cute the dead roots off and changed its soil. She’s now growing a new leaf after being dormant for so long. I live in the south so they sit on the screened porch in the summer time because it does get humid here. In the winter, they will move to my sunroom. Any suggestions on how to keep the others blooming and helping my original grow would be very appreciated.
Orchid update! 🌸🌱 Got a pot with sufficient drainage, & different soil this past week. Super Happy! Moved to a window with better lighting, and noticed two flowers starting to wilt. Not sure if this is bloom running its course? Again, new to plants but happy to learn! Too much sun? Or water? I’ve been misting her in between waterings (due to a lot of sun) Thank you to everyone who’s given advice
Hi! I bought my first orchid middle of April with several buds on it. Now it’s flowering its head off. Yippee! I wondered what the chances were of it flowering again next year. People keep telling me they could never get theirs to flower again - which would be a shame. (She is called Pinkie)
Hay I recently bought an orchid, its my first one ever and I have no idea what to do, the soil it came in is like bricks, and there are some roots sticking out the top is this good/normal? Also the pot is tiny. So do I repot in a bigger pot or leave it how it is?
Good morning glory! If you are considering getting a Vanda, do it. These guys are a pain in the tuchus to care for during the colder months and super needy during the summer. But totally worth it.
New to orchids here so still learning! I’ve had this moth(?) orchid for several months now and it recently lost its last flower. It’s putting out new roots and working on its second new leaf, so I think it’s happy. But what do I do with the naked flower spikes? Should I leave them alone, cut back to the last normal colored node, or cut the whole thing off at the base? Thanks in advance :) P.s. I think the black blister on one of the leaves was sunburn from when I first brought it home, it’s gone unchanged for the last several months.
I… am struggling This orchid was bought as a gift from the store, I repotted it a couple days ago (unfortunately there are no drainage holes). The plant has always had this sort of lean to it, although now it seems a bit more relevant and its new buds seem to be crinkled then falling off. This is one of my first plants and i’m really trying. Would misting be a better way for watering? And do the crinkled buds mean lack of water or surplus? I water with ice-cubes around once a week (stores instructions) and place near a window with moderate light. Any help is appreciated! Thank you!
My Dendrobium nobile flowered again this year after spending last year pushing out new stems! It needed a cold, dry winter and i’m so happy it’s flowering!

One of my new 14 orchids I ordered off Etsy. Unfortunately this was the only flowering size where the flower survived the shipping. I live in SW Wisconsin and have nowhere to buy these orchids close so I have ordered 2 times now by mail. This place in Ohio did a great job on my order. I’m hoping to keep everything alive! Fingers crossed!
My orchid started growing all these new roots above the soil roughly 2-3 weeks ago (and one new shoot). I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad sign since in my mind more roots means it’s looking for water? I thought it was doing well since two new leaves grew just last month. Does it need repotting again maybe? For context, I’ve had this plant since February 2024, I last repotted it this past February to a pot just two inches bigger, but it was my first attempt so maybe I didn’t do it correctly. Any opinions?
So I had way too many basic phaeleonopses and decided to do something cool with them, and I had a cool log laying outside so I made a triple orchid mount! I removed the soil from the roots and stuffed some sphagnum and carpet moss in there, and then drilled some holes in the wood, and then wired the plant in, and then put some more moss in the side. Hoping for a new bloom soon, the old one was 11 months ago! [Edit] this is meant to mimic how they would grow on trees in the wild, and the amount of moss in there is pretty insane. I had a bag about 1 foot by 2 feet of mixed sphagnum, carpet, wood, and plate mosses and they're all in there!
These two beauties are keeping me cheerful on this rainy gray day.
Help/advice needed: Systemic w/ Imidacloprid … concentrate is unavailable (banned) in stores and online in my area - California, USA; only granules are available. I wrote to Bonide regarding their systemic granules; they confirmed their granule product is not designed for orchid bark/moss. Advice on how to treat/defend my orchids from mealy bugs⛑️? (I still have some concentrate w/Imidacloprid, but preparing an alternative for when I run out)
My orchid has been steadily dropping flowers on the left side since I watered it a few days ago. Looks like four of them are about to drop. I’ve been watering when the roots turn silverish and I know it has enough light. The roots look healthy. Is this normal? Or is there something wrong? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
