I bought a pansy orchid last March and it is beautiful. See pix in her glory stage. I over watered her and of course it rotted. I had 3 sets of leaves left. I took her out of the pot and cut off the bad parts then let her dry for 1 days. I put her back in a pot in bark chips. This week I threw away the large stock. The other two sets do not have any roots and is not rotted. Ideas?
Is there a such as an orchid that never needs its stems cut to bloom?? This orchid I purchased last March has bloomed and re bloomed 3 times and still going.???
What’s wrong with my new orchid? I got this gorgeous orchid yesterday. It was in a wrapper when I chose it so I couldn’t inspect it properly. What I could see looked healthy though and it appears to have a very healthy and abundant root system with no sign of root rot. On close inspection at home, I found this on one of the lowest leaves. Is it a disease? Sun burn perhaps? Any ideas on if or what I should do here? Also the other bottom leaf has been damaged. Should I trim, remove or leave it alone?
Rootless Paph Maudiae is finally starting to growth a new root. The root is coming in above the lowest leaf. I don’t if that’s normal or not but I’m glad the plant is slowly recovering from root rot. Still keeping it in slightly damp moss with a touch of rooting hormone.
Unfortunately, my 1st orchid has gone through massive struggles. Although, I notice with some of my others, when I water them they start to form this white fluffy mold. Hydrogen peroxide looks like it dries out/doesn’t help the plant, so i’m left with not really knowing what to do? Possibly more wood instead of moss, but then my orchids dry out. Maybe that’s better though- as i’ll just water it more 🤔
Hey orchid friends! Can someone tell me what is wrong with my roots? Alegría (her name) was purchased from the store about three weeks ago and I’ve watered it around five times. She seems healthy other than her roots.
I repotted this babe on Sunday. Is she done for? :(( I’m knew to plants. I know they’re not meant to last when you keep them in the pot from the store. I fear I might have waited too long to repot her though.
Vanda Ratchaburi Beauty I wish I had jumped into the Vanda pool sooner. They are so lovely. Makes being a pain in the tuchus to care for during the winter worth it (hope I remember that in January)
Hi orchid gang! I was gifted this beauty from my boss. I have some other epiphytes but this is my first orchid. I read a bit but always love getting some quick & dirty advice on care from y'all. Also, does the auto-identification seem correct? The roots seem to be in great condition, not overwatered. It came in orchid bark already but I moved it into a clear orchid pot for better air flow.
The colors have really popped!
Well what do I do now? My Fredclarkeara woke up a couple of months ago. I waited (im)patiently for it to produce enough growth to begin watering again. It rejoices in the glorious bounty of liquid bestowed by moi by putting on a good amount of growth. Hurrah! We are getting along great. And now I see a tiny new pseudobulb peeking out of the media. Right after I watered it. Darn it. What should I do? Continue watering? Or stop until the new one matures enough?? Will it rot??? Am I worrying needlessly?!? <deep breath> But seriously, anyone with Catasetum experience please let me know what you think. I’ve only had this guy for a couple of years so it’s still an adventure. Ugh, what a beautifully frustrating plant.
Heya! New orchid owner here! I have some questions with mine, they seem decently healthy! Though the plant is potted in sphagnum moss, I immediately noticed that some roots were dried out. Do I clip them? Also, one of the leaves has a small crack in it, is there anything I should do to support it? Thanks!!🌸
Does any one have any good fert recommendations? The fertilizer I’ve been using I think is causing some root rot in some of my orchids.
Hi! I’m pretty new to plant care and just got my first orchid. How would you recommend watering it? Should I do 1/4 a cup weekly or water until it drains from the bottom? I’m also concerned it may have some root rot! Is there anything I should do to treat it?
My Dendrobium that is cork mounted has put out one little flower! Just one flower 🤭 and it’s on a tiny cane growing off of other tiny canes. The bigger plant hasn’t bloomed for a couple of years, maybe because it’s not getting enough dry cold weather in the fall/winter?
Hi guys! My orchid is finally done blooming/dying off. What do I do now? How far do I cut down? Do I keep watering and fertilizing? Keep it in the same amount of sun that it was in before?
This little beauty is Francesca, an orchid we rescued from the side of the road several years ago, who’s finally coming into her own! Her blooms are finally dropping and I’m not sure how to proceed next… she has never had her pot changed 🫣 I’m open to the ideas I’ve seen about moss and fish line to attach to logs, but I’m unsure how to proceed without hurting her, would love some guidance from a more experienced phal friend 😊
This sweet little patootie was given to us as a gift when my Father-in-Law passed away. It skipped a blooming season, as I believe it was set back and adjusting to my environment. I forgot how vibrant the contrast was with this gorgeous deep purple lip. I have so few standard phalaenopsis in my collection, but this one is definitely a keeper.
My Bella has a yellow leaf. Not sure why. I snoozed the water schedule last week. Any ideas?
