Hi friends. A leaf on my Paph is turning yellow. Picture on left is today at watering time and pic on right was in March. That’s the only leaf that is yellow. It’s in bloom at the moment (about 2 weeks now since the flower opened) so I’m worried about disturbing it and taking it out of the pot to look at the roots. It’s in orchid bark mix. There’s one layer of moss at the top of the pot. What should I check? How worried should I be? This is my first Paph. I’ve had it since late February, but I haven’t yet repotted because I got it with a bloom spike and didn’t want to shock the plant. Any advice would be great.

Can anyone help me with this orchid? It had white flowers when I got it from Lowe’s hardware store it was dying. I first cut the flower stems to the first node under the last flower to see if it would reflower. It did not. So then I cut the stem’s off. The leaves have been limp since purchased approximately a month and a half ago. I did put cinnamon on the cut stems. I’ve given it fertilizer/ water when it gets dry. I’m afraid I’m loosing it. Please advise me!!!

What is everyone’s favorite soil mixture for an orchid? I have an orchid that’s not doing well, looks like it was only in moss, but roots were turning yellow and flowers were dying, despite a new leaf growing. I’m going to repot it. I have moss and leca. This is my first time repotting an orchid to try to save it, and I’ll wondering if this will be a good mixture for an orchid? Google says orchid bark is best. I’m wondering if I should go to the store to buy better soil options? Or can I work with what I have?

I have a thriving orchid but it has 3 new shoots and looks packed in its planter. Should I repot it? And if yes, how? I’m a new orchid owner.

Bough this miracle grow orchid potting mix. Looks nothing like the picture on the bag. I thought it would be mostly bark. Will this still be okay for my orchid or do I need to get something else?

Is this plant is revivable? I’ve checked for root rot and cut out all dry roots and thus repotted it recently in order to try and save it

Hello! Recently, I have been looking for an orchid to grow from the seed. Originally, I was going to play it safe with a moth orchid… but I came across a monkey orchid. These orchids are real, but I wasn’t sure if it was realistic for them to actually look like monkeys every single time. They are the cutest little things ever and I wanted to gift them to my friends to creep them out, so I wanted to learn a bit more about them before I get the seeds.

Just picked up some new orchids yesterday! Anyone know if the care for Cattleya (undifferentiated; an established plant option on here) would be applicable to C. walkeriana (1st pic) and C. lab. rubra (2nd)? I've previously cared for a C. dowiana. Same for the third one: would Zygo maculatum (an established plant option on here) be a good enough approximation for my new Z. carolara? I've previously cared for a Z. triste. Would appreciate any insights y'all have!

Help! I unpotted a neglected outdoor Cymbidium and found a bad root disaster! Most of the roots are dark and squishy. The pseudo bulbs are still firm and most have leaves. Some new tiny roots and shoots are growing! The media is dissolving and crumbling. No bad smells though. After rinsing the plant really well and trimming away the squishy stuff, the plant feel part into smaller clumps. What should I do for repotting? Should I use sphagnum moss around the bulbs and bark chips around the roots? Moss only? Bark and perlite only? Should I use chunky bark or smaller material? There’s conflicting info on YouTube. Should I individually pot up each clump or can I put a few together? This guy was in one big (+12”) pot. Any help would be appreciated.

I bought an orchid in a decorative pot. I assumed the orchid was planted in that pot and didn’t look any further. After the blooms started falling off sooner than I expected, I looked closer and discovered that within the pot there were two plastic pots. I had been putting water at one side of the decorative pot, so it was only going into one of the plastic pots. Then I gave it a lot more water and after a week or so I noticed it was flooded and it stunk. So this poor plant has been over watered and underwater. I poured out the stinky water and have left it without any water for about a week and a half. When should I give it more water? Is there anything else I should do for it? Thank you so much for your help!

Hi guys, I’m new to orchids (although I watched like 5 hours of orchid videos last week trying to save my mom’s big one) and I just brought home this baby one on Friday (about 4 days ago). I waited a couple days for her to get used to her new spot and then watered because her roots were all silver/dry. Now, just 2 days after watering, I see these shriveled and wrinkly silver roots up top. Not sure what to do since it looks like the rest of her roots are still green and moist (although a couple look bad). I want to repot her into bark and maybe sphagnum moss, but I wanted to wait until her blooms have dropped. What do y’all think? Should I mist the top roots, or would that be bad and potentially cause rot?

Friends, which pot is better for a paphiopedilum orchid? The clear one or the green one? If these are not good, what should I buy?

I bought 3 mini orchids and put them in a water culture like I’ve done with an orchid I’ve had for 6 years now. One of the mini’s has mold/fungus? On its roots. It’s fuzzy like mold would be. How can I save the little guy? The water has evaporated so it should be drying out.

Help! I purchased this orchid from the Lowe’s hardware store in the clearance section where they put the half dead. She had good flower stem that had cracked. When I got her home I trimmed back the stems to see if I could get a rebloom. But as you can see it didn’t work. Today I found the yellow leave and cut the flower stems off totally. She is still damp. Roots look ok. Can I save this leaf or just remove it? Any advice would be appreciated!!
