Please help! My husband gifted me this orchid 2 months ago and I’ve already killed it. Will it come back to life if I keep watering it? Do I need to repot it? Any orchid tips are appreciated!!

Orchid friends. I adopted a paph yesterday and it needs help. The plant was wobbling around in the pot, roots are minimal and some squishy, and a baby plant broke off from the parent. I washed it off, spayed with hydrogen peroxide, minimal trimming of the squishy stuff and repotted it in very small pieces of new orchid bark mix. I put a small amount of sphagnum moss around the baby plant. Was this the correct thing to do? The parent plant does have two tiny growths coming out the side. That’s a good sign I hope. What do I do now? Does it need a plastic tent? Rooting hormone? More light? Less light?

This is my first time trying to keep an orchid alive after the petals drop. I pruned the dead roots and replaced the soil but it seemed like there were few healthy roots leftover. I used Plant Dr. to help cure underwatering and now the big leaves haven’t perked up but the center leaf emerged and is growing. Does this mean it’s doing okay?

Hiii this is my first post, cause my Phalaenopsis Orchid's roots are kinda struggling and I haven't been able to figure out why with the Planta doctors, so hoping someone else might have the answer. I water every 10 days and fertilize once a month, but some of the roots are a bit oddly colored, and in the root pic you can see a white spot thats not mold, but hasn't gotten better. The flowered pic was almost 5 months ago btw. Let me know if anyone has any ideas, thanks! :)

Got my first Cattleya. I tried looking it up on the Internet, but kept getting mixed answers. Do they like bare root or do they like bark? I understand bare root is more work, but I’d rather do more work to keep my orchid at its happiest.

I post already this on "Anything about plants" but no help so far then I saw the "Orchid Oasis". I was at a estate sale today and got these little orchids for $1.25 and to be honest orchids scare me but at this price I decided to take a chance. I know nothing about orchids so I really need your help. They are in good chunky orchid soil and look good to me but I may be wrong. They gave me some orchids food too but I would truly appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks

Hi everyone! I’m caring for my first non-Phalaenopsis orchid and I’m a little puzzled about the white growths shown here. When I contacted support, they indicated these were typical roots, but they don’t look like any orchid roots I’m used to. Can someone confirm? Also, not sure if the dried out brown husk looking stuff around the leaf stems is something that is normal or if it indicates a problem? Should I be removing it? Finally, I know this guy is a little bit under watered at the moment, but I am working on that so that the leaves hopefully will bounce back from looking so wrinkly on short order. Thanks in advance for any tips!

Ah! A yellow leaf! This is the third one (2 newer and one larger one) in 3 months after repotting.. I had done some research and repotted after I noticed some mold in the moss of the orginal pot, suspecting root rot and the moss wouldn't dry due to poor drainage. I did my best to cut off the bad looking roots which was alot, it was fully planted in moss so I switched it to bark. About a month ago I noticed it was starting to grow a new stem. I cut off the leaves once they had no more green to try and have the plant redirect its energy to the healthy parts of the plant. Noticed this yellow/browning leaf yesterday but I also noticed it seems to have new roots growing.. do I do anything different? This is my 2nd plant/first orchid 😅 thanks in advance.

I think she’s a Paph Sukhakulii. Sadly she flowered for one day then it fell off 😢 Hoping for another sprout next year.

One of my phals has had this stunted spike for months now. The overall health of the plant is great: it’s flowering and growing a new leaf, but this little guy just stopped. Any advice? Note: this was when I was fertilizing, she doesn’t sit in water more than a couple minutes lol

Hey everyone! I’m at a total loss with my poor Orchid. She was healthy when I purchased her at Home Depot. She was originally just in some plastic cups with some sort of foliage. I then went ahead and planted her in loose dirt made for Orchids and she was still thriving. I had white flowers that bloomed but then fell off and so I cut right between the new and old node on the stem and now the stem seems to be dying and I have leaves that are dying as well.. I’m thinking she isn’t getting enough sun light. I water when the dirt seems totally dry and I feed her once a week on Fridays. Today I did notice the dirt was so loose I could just pull them right out so I went ahead and took half the dirt out and stuck them further down into the pot and covered the roots and I made sure to keep those outer roots out for air, which could have also been part of the problem maybe? Here are before and after pics!

I’ve never had a Vanda orchid before, but I know with regular orchids if you’re repotting and see dead legs, you can cut them. Is it the same for Vandas? This is right after watering. Can I cut off all these long extra legs? Also, what’s the best advice for repotting this? Since the legs are growing out of that little plastic pot …

Hi there hoping I can get some help with an Orchid I have it went a long time with out water now I’m trying to bring it back to life, I did a 15 min soak yesterday but top now still seems dry some water left below. Any suggestions on what to do?

I am admitting I need help with this little guy! I have about 9 orchids that are doing wonderful, but this guy has been knocked down by my cat it seems like at least once a week, which means I was constantly picking up orchid bark and replacing the orchid back in it’s pot. It is my only orchid I have ever had get major root rot (I believe because of all the potting and re potting) so I cut all the dead roots off. It’s been 4 weeks and it looks like what is growing is still dead! The leaves are hanging in there though. I have him in orchid bark, nothing more. I am watering according to the apps schedule, and he is in the proper sunlight as well as proper humidity. (Along with all my other happy orchids) Any advice would help! Trying to keep this guy alive!

I am nervous. I’ve never had an orchid. But husband came home with this beauty. I thought the ice cube thing was a myth. Any tips on keeping a healthy orchid? Do I really toss an 🧊 in there twice a week?

The stem on the right got broken below the bottom floor in the process of buying it, they wrapped it and clipped it over the wrapping, But the bottom two flowers on that one above the break that were fully bloomed are now very sad looking, so I’m assuming the top half of that one is a lost cause? Should I just clip it below the break or is there a way to salvage it, it has a few unopened buds on it still which is a bummer. At least the stalk on the left is unharmed and blooming away.

Hi everyone! An update and a question for you guys today. I asked a little while ago whether or not I should repot my moth orchid into suitable orchid bark while it's in bloom, as I bought it from a store in some terrible dense medium I can't even call "soil". It's more of a carpet, really. I decided to wait it out and repot her once the blooms have naturally fallen off, because the roots at the top looked pretty healthy and robust. Fast forward to this morning, I notice a large yellow spot on the underside of one of the leaves (pic 2), and decide to get into the roots finally to see what's going on. My god. Thus thick carpet of a medium had suffocated the roots completely, and under the first layer of it was a ton of white mold. Lots of roots' ends had to go, being rotten, but surprisingly most stayed firm and healthy. I sprayed the root ball with 3% Peroxide and repotted into orchid bark. Hopefully she'll be okay. Now that you guys have all the context, I want to ask if there's anything else care-wise I should do? Should I wait to fertilize? Should I remove the yellowing leaf? Thanks so much!
