Problem, or normal? I noticed some mysterious fluffy stuff on the stem of my jeweled orchid. Is it a mold or some sort of unusually fine root system? How do I help my little friend?

Just got this new baby after moving one of my other orchids to water. I saw her in my big box store and just couldn't leave her behind. Any orchid tips, especially for those in water, would be greatly appreciated!!

I noticed really small circular thin spots on my oncidium Sharry Baby leaves and some other areas on the leaf where it looks almost transparent. It looks like light could come through the thin spots on the leaf. That doesn’t seem right to me. Is this a pest or disease issue? Any treatment suggestions? The oncidium is healthy overall and has lots of roots and growing new pods. But the thin spots on the leaves are weird. What do you all think?

Here's my new orchid (ludisia discolor 'salmon sandstone'). I've done okay with moth orchids before, but I'm new to these. I'd appreciate any care tips you have. (Should i keep him in his cup to keep humidity up?)

I have about 15 orchids. Most of them are phals. About 6 weeks ago, I branched out to a few other varieties. For example, I have the oncidium that smells like coconut when it blooms. And I want the Sharry Baby that smells like chocolate when it blooms. My question is, what other orchids have smells when they bloom and what are those smells? I prefer sweet smells, rather than perfumy, flowery smells. I want to make sure I have them on my wishlist.

I know she’s an orchid. I bought her about 5 plus years ago. Today, I finally got her some new soil (orchid soil) and cut the dead roots off. She has many firm ones but many dead ones. I would LOVE to see if I can get her to bloom again. Any ideas? I have a concentrated orchid food. Should I use it now? I try to collect rain water when we have it for her. A caterpillar got to her leaves a few years ago, which is why they look like that. Any suggestions not that I don’t think she’s pretty without the blooms.

Guys- I need some help with my Maudiae. She is giving me so much trouble compared to my other paphs. Her new fan grew so incredibly tall so quickly, that the new roots all kept coming out above the media and dried out almost immediately. (See the few blackened dots along the stem.) I decided to cut it just below the next root growth points and put the top of the fan in moist sphagnum and encourage root growth from there- it’s worked for me once in the past, and the leggy fan is doing fine. I assumed the plant would somehow sense that there was a crown issue and grow an entirely new fan, as you would expect in the normal growth cycle after a bloom. But it hasn’t. Instead, it’s putting out those two bright green little spikes. I don’t think they are roots as those tend to be a dull yellow or slightly brown, and rounded. These are pointy and green. If they were roots, they would definitely have dried out by this point. If they are new fans, it’s a very weird way for them to emerge- I’ve only ever seen them come from almost below the media, or at the base of the previous fan. Are they keikis? Can Paphiopedilums even get keikis?!? What is this confused Maudiae doing, besides confounding me?

This ground orchid has some yellow leaves. When I check the app, it could be anything, too much sun, too little sun, too much water, too little water… etc. I just received him last week and I want the poor guy to at least recover from being shipped here. Any thoughts to help him adjust?

Oh! Em! Gheeeee! Ignored my plants mostly yesterday to clean and reorganize their space and do a tank water change… piddling today and saw so much new growth after spritzing everyone with the new water formula and I woke up to TONS of growth everywhere!!!! 😍😍😍here’s just pics of the orchids alone… (more in comments)

Hello! I was gifted a white orchid and it seems to be doing good other than I’m not sure if it has thrips or some other type of insect on its leaves or if it’s just pollen. Any ideas? (Please excuse my Netflix in the background)

Hello everyone! Im new to this app and have an orchid i named Örchi. Anyways my boyfriend bought me these and i recently repotted them in a pot that has no drain holes but the way the plants came in was ina plastic kind of mold that i can jus remove from the pot to water. I dont know if thats harmful to do. The flowers are kind of withering. When i repotted I did a root clean up as some roots were brown and dry already and repotted in orchid mix. Help mee!

Hello orchid & plant friends 👋🏼🌸 … welcoming all advice🥹 Pictured here are most of my Orchid Ladies, all currently in bark (orchiata & pine w/a little Leca) History/quick background info: -seasonal repot for the entire collection was completed end of last Summer ‘24 (last Aug/Sept … except for top left: fostering & prepping for repot soon) -grown indoors w/full spec grow lights -currently being watered weekly (w/kelp) -Central Valley, CA Dehydration issue: They were doing well during winter but now they’re drying out and looking dehydrated. **should top ALL of them w/sphagnum moss to help retain moisture? Flowering orchid roots issue: It tried to flower in winter and I removed the spike. Persistent gal re-spiked towards end of winter. I will be cutting the flowers off now since it’s losing a leafy and looking scrawny. This gal has/had a huge root system when I repotted last Summer, hence the pot size. Unfortunately, I can only see the top of some of the roots. Just watered 4 days ago. Clearly she’s not thriving🙁 **with only one visible root being active, should I unpot and downsize the pot (if the root system fits a smaller pot)?

Wilting leaves :( did I do something wrong? Also this flower has been perky since I got it in March as a gift. Just few days ago, May 16, noticed the flower dying off and bottom leaves looking sad. I thought the flower would last a little longer than 2 months?That new shoot (is that what’s it’s called?) coming out just below where the flower is, just barely grew and looks like it will blossom soon-ish so I’m hoping I’m doing okay but not sure. Help?

Best photo I have of it right now. Will it survive? I rescued it from Walmart- they don’t water any of the succulents (at least at my Walmart, overheard a garden center worker tell another they don’t water them at all). I gave it new bark and trimmed the dead roots. I knew the plastic clear pot came out of the decorative one but after a few weeks, I tried to go water it again and pull out the clear pot from decorative one but it wouldn’t come out. I felt confused but figured, “hmm, maybe it never did coke out?” So a week goes by, I decided to check it again. The pot came out and I felt dumb. Anyway, there was even more root rot ofc so I just trimmed all the dead ones off. There’s only three roots left and they’re all really short (like 1-2”). I decided after that, I’d make it a water culture orchid. The leaves when I bought her back in late April, and even to now, they’re dark green with like greenish black spots over the leaves (worse in person than what photo shows). Makes me wonder if the leaves are dying off too?

So what do I do with all the extra rePotme orchid pots 🤔 I only needed one and it was the biggest one so there's not a size up to hold on to but will it work for other plans? Since it has slits on the sides 🤷‍♀️
