When I bought my Venus slipper about a month ago it was beginning to bloom and looking healthy but yesterday I noticed it was sad and flaccid. It came from a reputable plant shop so I left it in the soil and pot because it looked good. I’m so sad about it. Any idea what went wrong? Under watering? Not enough light?

Rescued from the trash with no flowers a couple months ago. I stuck a couple ice cubes in it over time and now I have flowers. I guess it’s time to look up how to actually care for it. It has no drainage hole. Should I change the pot?

I have some new buds that I want to show y'all!!! Also, should I prune the roots that grew up out of the pot, or not. And should I repot her?

Hey y'all!!! I would love to see all of y’all’s beautiful orchids!!! (whether you are a plant genius who has a huge green thumb or someone who can barely keep one alive) (I'm the latter one) 😅(I don't care) Just show them beauties!!! 🪴🪴🪴

Hello! This is a rhynchostylis coelestis that I bought and almost killed. Well, my cat helped. As you can see, before I was able to teach her not to, she chomped some of the leaves. But then I overwatered it (Planta didn’t stop me!) and the roots had shriveled to almost nothing. I dumped it out of the pot, cleaned everything off the roots, repotted it in an unglazed pot, and let it recover. It took months but now it looks healthier and it’s putting out new leaves! I recently moved from the Bay Area to Seattle and could only take three plants, but I couldn’t leave this one behind. Encouragement and advice are most welcome.

Someone gave me an orchid as a gift to remember my Mom who just passed and this is my first orchid. I’d like to keep it alive. It came from a supermarket, have y’all had success with that? And, more specifically, is this aerial root (?) a good or bad sign? Thanks for ANY help you could provide.

Hiya orchidites! Seriously not intentionally spamming this forum but excited about flowers while on vacation. The Paphiopedilum ‘Fred’s Contrast’ has fully opened. Huzzah! For those of you who feel comfortable with phals and want to branch out into other orchids, consider picking up a paphiopedilum. They are thirstier but don’t need as much light. The flowers are unearthly looking and typically come in deep burgundies, soft pinks, bright greens and white, but you can probably find hybrids in almost every color except blue… never blue. The modeled leaves make for a lovely plant when not in bloom. And it’s kinda a plus that their preferred media is more like “normal” houseplants. Or pick up an oncidium. I love them and you will too.

Is this a root growing from the center?

What should I do with this in zone 11a?

My Ons. “Orange Kiss” put on what seemed to be a spike a few months back. It seems to have stalled out. What should I do here to give it some assistance? Is this spike doomed?

Everything is coming up roses… er… orchids for me! In addition to the oncidiums, there is a Dendrobium latouriate ‘Green flash’ that has been pushing out blooms for months and a partial opened Paphiopedilum ‘Fred’s Contrast’.

Is this a new stem or a new root on my orchid? 💚

My one and only! She seems happy since her flowers faded in August. New huge leaf plus more emerging and new growth on stem. But the roots are dark?! Any advice?

Is this a new stem for new blooms?

It’s been a big week at the Pi house. Another one is opening up! Oncidium Twinkle 'Pink Profusion' I got this one as a seedling last year so wasn’t expecting any blooms. I mean it’s in a super tiny 1” square pot. But I come home to find lovely little blooms starting to open. The flowers are around 1/4” and are suppose to be fragrant, ranging from chocolate to honey. I think this one is a honey but I can’t smell anything (I betting it’s a morning fragrant flower or allergies). Mature plants can bloom multiple times a year, putting on a mass of flowers. The flowers remind me of pink versions of the Oncidium ‘Gold Dust’

Ionocidium cv. Popcorn 'Highlands' An intergeneric oncidinea I picked up last year. It’s pretty small. This is the second time it’s bloomed for me. The blooms this time are around 1/2” and look like they will be more numerous this time. The lip starts as a lovely lemon yellow that fades pretty quickly to a very soft pink. Last time the blooms lasted around a month. No scent but who cares! It goes from yellow to pink! Yay!

For those of you using the temperature drop trick to help instigate flower spikes on your phalaenopsis orchids… how long do you wait? When do you give up and just assume it’s not going to happen for some of your plants this year? Getting frustrated waiting on a few, and I’m wondering if I should just throw in the towel this season on some of these jerks. Harrumph.

Help!! I have two orchids that have fallen victim to mealy bugs!! I can’t seem to kick them. I have been spraying the leaves with a diluted peroxide mixture, which seems to work, but then after a few weeks they sneak back out. Any suggestions on how to kill these pests.

I had a fallen yellow leaf on my Den. kingianum ‘silcocki’ so I pulled the plant out to have a closer look. I have a couple of growths from the bottom that I took to be new canes and then I started seeing growth coming from further up on canes that look like new canes?? And then I see a couple that have roots growing out some others??? Are these some kind of baby. No wonder it dropped a leaf! The new cane I observed last prog report has grown to nice small cane, can anyone tell me what these others are?
