For those of you using the temperature drop trick to help instigate flower spikes on your phalaenopsis orchids… how long do you wait? When do you give up and just assume it’s not going to happen for some of your plants this year? Getting frustrated waiting on a few, and I’m wondering if I should just throw in the towel this season on some of these jerks. Harrumph.

I am very interested in this as I don’t have any tricks. I live in a warm climate and growing space is in my home so their daytime nighttime temperatures are relatively constant. The way I deal with reluctant bloomers is they have 3 years. If no blooms in that time, then I try to find them a new home where hopefully that grower will have better luck. At least that’s how I try to do it. Some of them I can’t get rid of. Yeah, I’m talking about you golden princess.

overnight! you can put them in your garage or near a window as long as it stays above or at 50° F every night for like a week? i’m not quite sure how long, mine are next to windows usually. there are a lot of resources about it online as well, that have more specifics than i can offer.

Hey I know we are in similar climates, we still don’t have our temp drop yet. (Also some just might not this year it happens) I wouldn’t lose hope till the end of November-early December. When I had talked to the orchid people at the show they said everyone is in full bloom (phal wise) in mid February.
