Brassolaelia Richard Mueller x Cattleya Triumphans It may be below freezing outside, but this kid doesn’t care. Just popped out four blooms. Very interesting color progression with this one. It starts out almost beige the first day. By the second day, the color deepens to a yellow orange. The lip is beautifully ruffled with magenta spots. The flowers are around 3” across.
Tips for success? I’ve recently repotted my phalaenopsis orchid (3-4months ago) and I’ve noticed that she’s not been super happy afterwards. She’s dropped 2 (old) leaves but recently grew the one on the right post repotting. I’ve got plenty of healthy roots and the looks of a new one starting but she hasn’t had a flower spike in 2 years. Regularly watering her 50mL once a week. Perhaps she doesn’t like the switch from sphagnum moss to the new orchid mixture and bigger pot? (Her roots were growing out of the old pot so she needed an upgrade) I got the grow lights thinking she needed more light now that it’s winter as she’s previously loved this window and we’ve been having no sun for the past month.
Oh no! I have found thrips! I have isolated the plant that I can tell is infected. I could use some recs on treatment for this plant and what to do with other plants.
Which orchids do well in LECA? Planta says my ludisia discolor (currently in soil and doing fine) will love it, and it’s not recommended for my rhynchostylis (currently in bark). Is that because the rhynchostylis won’t ever truly dry out in LECA?
Do these look like new flower stems popping out? This is my first orchid, and she unfortunately lost all of her flowers shortly after I got her. I did cut the stem back after doing some research and unfortunately have been dealing with some pests. So I’ve been trying to nurse her back to health and noticed these two little guys pop up a few days apart.
I know it’s hard to see but my mother orchid has a hole in the middle of the leaf. Is this normal?
My beautiful orchid is in its 2nd bloom since I got it about 8 months ago. It was originally a blue watercolor variety but as soon as those flowers dropped it sprouted two new spikes with its original white flowers. I’ve learned keeping orchids strictly in glass + water ONLY keeps them very happy. I have 3 different varieties all kept in glass + water and it is definitely the most successful method I have tried! They are all constantly in flower or pushing out new babies. I definitely recommend switching to glass + water to anyone who is using soil and is struggling with root rot or the plant just not growing overall! I’ve taken plants with no roots left at all (from sitting in wet soil) to roots sprouting out of the top after switching to glass + water! A glass vase, pitcher, old crystal drink wear? Perfect!! Clean it out and put some of the glass beads you can get in the craft isle at Walmart in there (just enough so the roots have something to sit on) and, voila you have your new and improved orchid home! Make sure to rise your roots off well and get all of the soil/bark off before you put it in your water!! Cut off any dead, stringy, or mushy roots! Only put enough water in to cover the bulk of the roots and not the actual plant. You’ll have to do regular water changes + cut mushy roots off for the first couple of weeks but once the plant acclimates it will be the happiest it’s ever been!! Happy growing!! 🌠🧿✨
The last of the flowers on my Phal died. I’ve chosen to cut the flower spikes completely down as both were brown about half way down anyways and I want it to actually rest for a bit and give me some time to get the things to get it repotted before and it settled afterwards before I am worried about any new flowers.
Hello! My parents picked up this orchid off of the clearance section. It looks to be in pretty roughy shape. I was hoping for some advice on how to take care of it!
Hi everyone! I’m wondering if I can get some advice on when to detach a keiki from the mother plant. It’s only got one small root about 1 inch but so many leaves (3 plus two more starting)! It was my grandmother’s phal before she passed and I really don’t want to hurt it before giving the mother plant back to my grandfather.
I need to know how to repot a orchid the best easiest simplest way I need help need help
Does anyone know what kind of orchid I have? I just can’t seem to find the exact type I have on Planta or on the internet.
Laeliocattleya Tokyo Magic x Pot. Georgia Peach Flared Apricot New year, new orchid! I went with Mr Pi to a local nursery last weekend. He wanted to pick up some materials for his bonsai. We left with this lovely little thing, a discount orchid and no bonsai anything. Typical. It smells kinda like a florist shop seasoned ever so slightly with black pepper. 😁
My moth orchid has thrips! What can I do to save her? Thanks in advance
I’m gonna scream. Every time my orchid grows new points for flowers I somehow knock it off 😭😭😭 anybody else??
My orchids are happily growing out of the top of my fish tank however they aren’t very stable at all. One of my orchids fell over and it snapped all the buds off the spike and shattered my heart in the process. Does anyone have advice on how I can stabilize my plants more? My tank isn’t rimless and it does have a lid with about an inch gap in the back for roots to grow.
Anyone had any experience saving a phal when all the leaves have dropped off?
My orchid has these two very large spikes on it. As the buds are growing, I have noticed some dark spots on a few of them. Is this something I should be concerned about?
Phalaenopsis Taisuco Little Stripe 'Dootsie’s Pride’ For me, part of the joy of keeping plants are the memories associated with them. I have a spider plant that is an offspring from my grandmother’s plant, a pothos from my grandfather’s funeral, and a staghorn fern that my brother ripped (none too gently) from his huge specimen. I have Christmas cactus, aloes, kalanchoes, a rubber tree and a goldfish plant because they are associated in some way with people special to me. Every time I interact with the plant, I remember them. This orchid holds a special place because it began blooming the day we had to put a wonderful dog down. It made for a lovely memorial to a good friend. Now every time it blooms, I am reminded of Zeke and all the fun times.
