Plant Lives Matter

Hey y’all, I have this dendrobium that overall seems healthy if maybe a bit over-sunned. Long story short, this was intended to be a short term placement for it during some home improvements we’re doing, so eventually it will go back to its home with less light. In the meantime, it has developed this, but I’m not sure if it’s some sort of pest or a sign of too much light. Or maybe it’s part of its natural cycle. Those black spots are hard, not scraping off. Can’t seem to find anything about this online. Anyone seen something like this before? I don’t want to make any further changes to its environment unless I have to.

That is definitely some kind of pest. I don’t think it has to do with the light.

Are they leaving any kind of sap residue?

Not that I can tell. They’ve been there for a month and haven’t spread to the rest of the plant at all. I guess maybe I could swab with some peroxide? Is it a type of scale?

If it is scale, alcohol and a swab will work wonders.

I have a feeling it is a scale especially if they are hard to get off.

Thank you both! I’ll give it a good rubdown tonight and keep an eye on it.

I’m thinking scales, also. I’m surprised no baby scales are near the grouping. There are 8k types of scales. Maybe this type has a longer gestation period. Treat with rubbing alcohol as recommended.
