Hello lovelies! Help please! When I was watering my plants today, I accidentally knocked off this keiki paste clone mini orchid that has been growing. It has the tiniest root but definitely wouldn’t have come off on its own yet. Any suggestions on how to help it survive? So you think I can just lay it in the moss/orchid bark base of my mature orchid? (I haven’t even been able to get an orchid to rebloom, so I was super excited when it started growing the clone plant). 🤞 🪴
Oh, BUMMER. So, you are right to think there is a good chance that it was too soon to survive detached from the mother orchid. However- these are amazingly resilient plants. And it’s *possible* it could survive long enough to grow more roots and therefore the ability to feed and hydrate itself. So. In my opinion, for best chance of survival, I would create a little ICU (as Miss Orchid Girl referred to such a set up.) I’d prop her upright, -so her crown and leaf joints aren’t laying in and collecting moisture, which can just rot her away, nestled her her own bed of sphagnum moss that you will want to keep fairly moist. More wet than you’d probably keep the mother plant. So a small plastic cup maybe? And then bag it in a ziplock to retain the moisture and humidity. You can (and should) open the bag every couple of days to air it out a little, and check the moss. Then cross your fingers?
