Hello! Hoping this group can help - two of my orchids has developed blisters/bubbles on its leaves, one worse than the other. Is it sunburn? Something else? Thank you!!

Blisters are caused from overwatering. If you have sphagnum moss in with the potting medium it may be holding moisture at the roots for prolonged periods. These plants have limited places to store excess water so they form blisters. I have one plant that I was a bit overzealous with when I first got it and it blistered. Just back off on the watering and you’ll be fine. The blisters won’t go away but any new leave growth will come in just fine. The leaf in the photo I posted blistered two years ago and is still thriving. It doesn’t look particularly pretty but it is healthy. (Split tip and brown end were actually on that leaf when I got the plant about 28 months ago)

It’s called “edema”. The plant is storing water in its leaves. When there is too much it starts to blister. I totally agree with Heather! 🦋🐞

Wow, fascinating. Mine are in very light growing medium and I water them only when roots dry out. I’m surprised! But will scale back!
