I bought this orchid in June on discount, it finished its bloom cycle. It started to bloom again before the bloom cycle was over. The orchid has a leaf turning yellow. It’s about to bloom. I gently reported the orchid. The roots look great. My concern is that it did not sprout another leaf before this one turns yellow. Is this normal for leaf’s to fall off before another one grows? Using a ceramic pot with better drainage do you have to water a lot more? Thank you for the help.

It can be a normal part of the plants life cycle. If everything else looks good then I wouldn’t worry about it too much. As for watering, their roots are like sponges. A good way is when they’re dry, submerge the pot (depending on the medium!) for 5-10 minutes then allow to completely drain. The roots will have absorbed a lot of water, as well as some in the medium around it. Ice cubes aren’t a great choice (if thats the method you were using).

So just dunk the whole pot in water for 5-10 mins then water again when the soil is dry? About how often do you water like this? I was doing ice cubes.

Thats it! My orchids are in a bark medium, so they dry out a but quicker. I do mine 1x/week. But if you have moss in yours that will hold moisture much longer. I would check it daily and then once its dried out (to your satisfaction) dunk it again :) be sure the water only comes up to the base of the plant and not over any of the leaves.
