I’ve inherited my sisters orchid after she (almost) killed it. Somebody told me it was crown rot. Are there any other opinions or ideas to save my poor plant?

It is indeed root rot You’re going to have to take off all the dead roots off. People told me to disinfect it but I couldn’t tell you how, and re pot it in clean soil, don’t re use any off the old stuff

There are a lot of issues going on with this plant. It looks like there is a flower spike coming out of the crown, can you confirm that? If so, it’s not necessarily crown rot but what they call a terminal spike. It means a flower spike grew out of the crown and no more leaves can grow there. If it’s just a weird angle, and that is not the case, it does look like you have some crown rot. If that is the case, you’ll have to asses the health of the stem. Let’s go from there… I’d have two sets of advice depending on the answer to that pivotal question.

Just checking in… how’s this plant doing? Any thoughts on whether that might be a terminal spike? There is still hope, either way, but very different ways of survival.

Crown rot judging by the watery leaf base.
