Make sure you replace the water
1 likei have been! every monday, so i did it this morning with a fitted brush to clean the glass. is that too infrequent?
0 likesThat’s perfect as along as you have clean water you shouldn’t have any troubles
1 likea bit concerned about the look of the sprouting roots in water. how will i know if it’s root rot vs root growth? they’re similar to me.
0 likesUsually when a root is rotted it’s black and mushy
0 likesSome say to replace the water, however others say to just top it off because the water will have rooting hormones from the plant in it that you don’t want to dump. I just top off unless there is slime, then I replace. I like to use distilled water with a couple drops of hydrogen peroxide to help prevent slime and I’ve heard a couple drops of nutrient SuperThrive sold on Amazon is good too
1 likeWhat are you propagating?
0 likesall pothos except the top is an adonsonii
1 likeOh, pothos are the easiest! Your set up looks great! You’ll be fine. Instead of replacing all the water weekly, I just refill whatever has been used up/evaporated. That has been working fine for me.
1 likeSome people will tell you to change the water every week, and some will tell you not to change it. It tends to produce similar results, although I’ve found that if you don’t change the water, algae is more likely to develop and the plants are more likely to get root rot because of all the bacteria. However, the plants release rooting hormones into the water that help the roots grow, which is why some people don’t change it. Usually what I do is is replace the water completely every two weeks, and on the first week pour out half of the water and replace it. This tends to give me better root growth and less algae. Hope this helps!
