My calathea Warscewiczii bloomed a few weeks ago and I have been watching the flower go from a gorgeous flower into something that is now producing seed like pods. I know that this is a sign of a healthy plant, but the flower is now starting to dry out. Can I use the pods that came out of the flower to replant? What should I do with it? If you have experience with this and please help! (Google gives mixed advice). Thank you in advance for the advice.
Not sure on the seed pods… sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your Calathea has spider mites. I’m sorry. 😞
0 likes Yes, this plant was a rescue and was in horrible condition when I got it. I’m about to give it the insecticidal soap soak for the third time. I thought it was in very very bad shape and very unhappy until it started blooming. I wasn’t even sure if it was going to make it. Working on spider mites while I figure out what to do with this pod! This one is definitely a work in progress some days it looks gorgeous and some days. It looks like its last day. I just put it near the window to take a picture, other than that it’s quarantined.
1 like Oh ok! Sorry if I overstepped. I got one of these as a rescue last week! And yesterday found a mealy bug crawling on it. 😓 So another dowsing of alcohol spray it got. Best of luck with your rescue baby, props for taking a chance on her!
1 like You totally didn’t! It was a great observation and I totally love talking about plenty advice, especially with the rescues. Good luck with your rescue as well! Even though this one has been such a challenge, it’s also been really rewarding in so many ways. Let me know if you ever know what to do with that pot on top. I’m so tempted to plant it.

0 likes Internet says… that you’re doing the right thing by letting the seed pods dry completely before harvesting. Is there any chance they got pollinated? If so you could store the seeds dry and then plant them when ready. 👍
