I’m trying to propagate a zz plant but it’s dying in the water and there’s barely any roots. Is there a better way to propagate it?

perlite or spagnhum moss!! lower risk of rot.

I second the perlite or sphagnum moss. But I think these can only be propagated through the rizome or a leaf. I don't think the stem roots, someone can correct me if I'm wrong though. Try leaf propagations in sphagnum moss in a closed container.

Jumping in to say I just propped a stem that fell from mama when repotting. Popped in a mason jar with not toooo much water aka you don’t want most of the stem sitting in water. Used rooting drops and popped in a Pothos vine for good measure to speed up root production. Still took at least 2 or 3 months to see secondary roots and the teensy rhizome starting to form. Change the water ~weekly and a few drops of hydrogen peroxide to help keep the yuckies at bay. Good luck!

Because they take so long to root.. I would just buy a new one..

The propagate from leaf or stem and create a rhizome. I propagated some cuttings and only one stem cutting made it and took about 2 years for a new shoot to grow.
