Any tips to propagate? I’ve tried a few times with pothos and scindapsus and it seems they just die after a bit, one grew a big root and then it turned brown, what have I been doing wrong?

Is the root squishy where it’s darker? It could be fine and just the coloring of an aerial root turning into a regular root since the bottom looks white. When propagating in water be sure to change the water once a week. Also, I can’t tell if that is also a node at the bottom of your cutting in the picture but if it’s not, I would try to cut it in a better spot than in your future as the node in that one is right at the junction of the leaf stem or petiole and that can be problematic to have that submerged. You can also increase chances of rooting well by having two nodes submerged. I have made this very elaborate and professional graphic for you to see what I mean 😂 lol

The red lines are representing where the nodes would be.

Oh ok! Thanks. And I did not know that I will try getting a better cut next time, thanks!

Rooting hormone helps you can use aloe Vera everyone says honey but I haven’t gotten any success I just tried today cutting the outer layer off where I wants the roots to grow to see if with the inside more transparent hopefully the roots grow out faster I seen it on videos trying it for the first time today

Can you use rooting hormone if you propagate in water? Wouldn’t it just go everywhere or does it not matter

So just slightly scrape the skin with a sharp knife all around or if you do stem nubs just the side you lay on the sphagnum moss or whatever you choose to propagate with a lot of people say it speeds the rooting process today I decided to try it with a few different plants you could see I got today

The root is fine. They’ll sometimes turn slight brown while propping. Put it back in water and let it do its thing. Keep it in a bright, warm spot. Add a drop or two of liquid fert if you have some. It will be ready to pot when it gets secondary roots. Pothos props for example. These were in water for too long tho lol

Have you been changing the water often? I usually change my props water 2x a week.

If it makes you feel any better, the silver pothos I’ve tried to propagate 3 different times have all done what you describe. The silver spotted ones seem to not like semihydro very much at all.
