Hi all! I’d like some opinions. I got this monstera standleyana aurea two weeks ago. It was supposed to be a starter plant but this cutting was barely rooted. It came with another that had decent roots so I potted that one but I didn’t feel comfortable just throwing this one in the pot too. It’s been in water with some pothos cuttings and a bit of take root (I know, not as good in water) for two weeks now and not doing much. The pothos are going nuts though. So I’m thinking maybe I should throw it in a prop box with a good dab of the rooting hormone instead? Or should I just leave it where it is? What would you do? I’m definitely overthinking it but it’s making me nervous it hasn’t even started to grow any other roots but that one yet and I’m impatient 😅 I’m leaning towards moving to the prop box because I had some Hoya tricolor cuttings in water and some in a prop box started at the same time and the box ones grew roots immediately but the water ones didn’t do much. I moved the water ones to the box and now they’re growing like crazy too. So maybe the box would be better? Help!

My standleyana is like THE slowest rooter in my collection. I don’t know why. I have nodes that I chopped like 5ish months ago that have been in a sphagnum moss prop box since. They haven’t rotted or dried up, but hardly any of them have even a hint of roots! Some have even grown a leaf with no roots 🤪 Maybe rooting hormone would help then! I haven’t tried it myself

That makes me feel better about it not doing much! I have a big standleyana albo too and it grows so insanely fast I kinda assumed they would root pretty quick too. Guess not. These dang plants 😵‍💫

Right?? And it being a monstera too. So strange how they don’t prop as well as others. Each species is unique 🤪😂

I like propagating in either sphagnum moss or perlite. Both will grow resilient roots

Thanks! I do them myself actually. That’s my other hobby besides plants haha. The green is a cat eye polish!
