Does anyone have tips for successful planting of water propagations?… | Propagating & Sowing | Planta community

Does anyone have tips for successful planting of water propagations? I planted one that was successful and another one that died! I know long roots and secondary roots are key, but is there any other tips? Should the soil be moist for a few days as it acclimates?

There is a YouTube channel called Epic Gardening and I’m pretty sure they have a video about transferring water propagations. What I remember from it is that you should hover the plant in the pot and then carefully add soil around it, so the roots are spread down into the soil instead of getting like coiled up/squished. And then keeping it very moist for the first while because the roots are so used to the water. I have not tried this myself so I don’t actually know but I really like Epic Gardening they have so many educational videos

i just potted my pearls n jade prop about 2 weeks ago and they’re doing very well still. i potted it how maddison explained, not shoving it in the dirt, just letting the dirt fall around. i watered it right after i potted so the nursery pot was dripping for a while. i just watered it lightly the other day to maintain it. the leaves are continuing to grow and it looks very happy. i also potted my golden pothos props and i just poked a hole in the dirt of the mother plant (trying to fill the pot) and shoved it in there and refilled the dirt and watered thoroughly. and that one is doing just as well, putting out new growth. i haven’t decided how much i’ll let the soil dry out for that one, since it’s with the mother. we’ll see. most plants are pretty hardy, you will do great! (: just keep an eye on that plant a little more for a while.

water roots are really fragile and often struggle to adjust directly to soil. if you have perlite or leca, i’d recommend planting the cuttings in a semi-hydro setup with your media of choice, to allow the roots to acclimate to some level of drought. in my experience, after a few months in semi-hydro, cuttings adjust to soil with no problems, and you can water like normal— once the top inch of soil is dry for prayer plants
