this is my first time propagating cuttings and now i’m nervous about planting the rooted cutting since i’ve got this far successfully 😅. i already have a string of hearts that is admittedly quite sparse, how would i go about planting the cutting into the pot? i know you can lay string of hearts on top of the soil and they’ll root themselves, would that work in this case?

I typically take one of the strands (if there are multiple) and curl it around the top of the soil. If you only have one string, curl it up. It will topple over the side with a fuller base soon enough. They’re pretty fast growers!
