Got gifted a broken off unidentified rose stem and I want to get her in the ground or at least in a tube ASAP. However I’m out of rooting powder, anyone here have any luck with household rooting powder alternatives? I’ve heard of cinnamon and baking soda but does anyone here have experience or recommendations?

If you have a golden pothos (or any kind of pothos? Not sure), a cutting of that in the same container of water can help your cutting root. Cinnamon and baking soda are good for other purposes but I have not heard of them stimulating rooting. When you buy rose bushes, though, you often get a nice blooming rose grafted onto rootstock that is more resilient. Definitely look into growing roses from cuttings and see if there's specialized info about your situation.

You can root things in just water, it just takes longer. The key is to prevent rot/fungi, so distilled water helps. You can also leave it in water for now and add rooting hormone later if you want. Change out the water every week or two. Roses are also pretty easy to grow from cuttings, so it should go well as long as you get the basics
