Hi, I was told from a friend that I can create new babies from my echeveria. This is where we’re at, I don’t know what the next step is from here. How long do I let the roots get before planting? Also when I do plant, am I planting the whole thing in soil or leaving the mother leaf above soil?

I’d say you’re definitely good to place them on some damp soil! Give them a mist once a week or so. No need to bury them or anything, the roots will find the soil. 🙂

So I don’t plant them? Just lay them on top and let them do their thing?

Yes! In the past I have used tweezers or a tiny spoon to place a little bit of dirt over the roots only. But that is definitely not necessary at all!

Im with Nic- just lay them on the soil and they’ll do their thing! I leave the mother leaf attached until it’s fully dry and kinda just detaches on its own. The new baby will grow using the moisture from the mother leaf. I don’t mist mine at all 🫣 I have them on a terracotta saucer with cactus soil and occasionally I’ll set the saucer in a little bit of water (like 1/4”- not much) and let it soak up from the bottom. Ive noticed that it encourages the roots to go down towards the moisture, and helps keep the leaf from sitting on wet soil and rotting.

How did you get those echeverias to prop? Just wet paper towel?

I picked them off from the main stem and just laid them on this plastic lid (lid to a Tupperware storage bin) and I’ll mist them once a week since it’s been really hot. I’ve read/heard they don’t want to be super wet because they can start to rot. 🤷🏻‍♀️ it worked for me this time haha
