Hello lovelies! I have this plant, one of my faves… an “Alternanthera ficoidea ‘Partytime’”. I’ve propagated them before and this one growth is particularly leggy. I’m wondering if I could cut her and root her, do you think a stem with no leaves would give out new leaves? Or would it be the death of that stem? Pic of original plant and plant as is right now. Curious about cutting the long stalky stem on the left of second pic. If you did, where would you cut it? She’s very dramatic but roots quite easily…

hi (: i definitely think you can get her to be bushier! first make sure she’s getting enough light! for propagating i made a little mark-up for you. i would chop where i drew pink, at an angle. let those cutting’s dry out for 5-10 minutes before you put them in water (if you’re water propagating). or i’m sure you could put them directly back into the soil if you made a little hole for it. the yellow highlighted parts will put out new leaves and or roots. so make sure those are touching the water or soil. there is one section that i marked with blue that doesn’t have any leaves. just lay that on top of the soil, slightly in, and keep the surface of the soil moist by misting so it produces roots that reach for the water and leaves that reach for the light! i’m not sure you can do anything with the sections i colored black but it doesn’t hurt to lay those on top of the soil too, just to try! if you want it to stay bushy, i would regularly propagate it to encourage bushier growth, or give the stems more light so they’ll want to put out leaves. i hope this is helpful! good luck!! your plant is beautiful!!
