What’s the best medium to propagate monstera in? I just got an albo monstera cutting last week, currently in moss and perlite and I have just been watering as needed to keep it moist, but I haven’t seen any roots starting, would it be better if I transferred it into water?

in my experience monstera root easiest in soil if they have aerial roots or a media like perlite (or leca or pon) or a moss/perlite blend. any cuttings i’ve tried to root in water ended up rotting eventually. unless you have an airstone or another way to keep the water thoroughly oxygenated i would recommend staying away from water as a propagation medium when it comes to rot prone plants like monstera deliciosa. i hear the variegated varieties are even more prone to fungal root rot, notably monstera deliciosa ‘thai constellation’

Mine are in water. Mine monstera is non variegated. Now I wonder if I should move it to Leca.

some people have monstera surviving in water though i don’t fully understand how without an airstone. perhaps they’re changing the water daily but that can’t be too good for the microbiome. i would highly recommend transitioning to leca if you want yours in soil eventually, as water roots are weak and soft— hence why the transition to soil is rough for water-rooted plants. if your plant has to push through the clay pebbles while growing new roots it will strengthen the root system and allow the plant to adjust to some level of drought, eventually easing the transition to soil or soilless media.

Thank you! I’m gunna switch it over to Leca being that I want to put it in soil down the road.
