My jade prop isn’t rooting - any suggestions? I snipped it from my jade plant two weeks ago, dipped it in rooting hormone and placed outside at first, where the Phoenix sun was drying it out rapidly. It’s inside now but still no sign of root development. I’m worried about it drying up. Tips appreciated!

I had jade props that took all summer to root. I started off with like 6/8 & 4.5 survived. I just try not to let the soil dry out completely, mostly but not completely. I tried water propping, I failed at it. The .5 that I have is potted with a pothos because I heard it makes plants root.

That was an interesting experiment with the Pothos. I’ve heard the same thing, suggesting why they are so easy and quick to root.

I’ve done it with a bunch of props, just plopping them in the soil with the pothos, but when it comes time to take out the prop cause it’s rooted & growing, I have to untangle them & it’s not the easiest lol

You could try propagating it with wet perlite! I did that recently with stem cuttings from my jade, and they all started to root within a week and a half! I filled a pot with drainage holes with perlite, ran water over the perlite and let it drain, placed a cup under the pot to let any excess water drip out, then stuck the cuttings in (this was after letting the cuttings callous). I only water it when the perlite completely dried out, and checked on the roots once a week. They were ready to plant into soil within about 2 1/2 weeks. Hope this helps!

Propagation can take a long time- I'd keep an eye on it (looking for changes in leaves, stem, and if water is pooling) and make sure it has a consistent watering squedule- other than that, I'd leave it be

I also like to keep my jade propagations in rocks instead of soil so I can see how the roots are growing easier :) you can also do it in just a glass with just water though
