My spider plant is doing great and has lots of babies but I’ve noticed for the last couple months none of the babies are growing roots… is that normal? I’ve taken some off to try and have them root on their own in mini pots but they ended up dying :(

Don’t remove them from the plant. Pinning the babies to soil in their own pots but leave them attached to the parent. That will ensure they get nutrients while they grow their own root system.

I’ve usually cut mine and let them root in water. But somewhere else I heard what you are saying here I then tried that and it was great also! Have another gorgeous spider plant this way!!

Could you try and describe how to do this method??

Put a small pot with moist soil next to the parent plant. Black the baby on top of the soil and pin the runner to the soil in the pot to keep it from shining or moving. You can use plant pins or even just unfold a paper clip so it is U-shaped and poke it into the soil over the runner to hold it in place. If you’ve ever propogate strawberries from runners it is the same technique.

I’ve encouraged the babies to grow roots by putting them in some moist soil or wrap them with a moist paper towel.

I agree with the other comments, just wanted to add that I’ve also had success by propogating the babies in water first.
