I just got a monstera aurea cutting and my friend who got me hooked into being a crazy plant lady told me the best way to avoid root rot is to avoid the node going into water so this is my set up! It looks like you have a root coming out so try this out! Monsteras are prone to root rot because of how big of a node is and how much water can be held in it. Hope that helps! Happy growing!

1 likeI agree, on a cutting that isn’t cheap, I made sure she was going to survive 😂
1 likeI've had phenomenal success with starting my monsters in a mixture of 2 parts sphagnum moss, 1 part pearlite, and 1part vermiculite. Keep the mixture damp. If possible put it on a heat mat and tent it to keep the humidity high. If you tent it, then after you water it, it may not need water for a long time. The sphagnum moss will need to be rehydrated. Be sure to squeeze out the excess water. You want to keep the medium moist, but not wet. Hope this helps!

1 likeIt looks like you have a good cutting to start. It would be better if it had more than one leaf but still it looks healthy. I would use some rooting hormone to stimulate new roots. Not root stimulator but rooting hormone. All you need is a light dusting on the area where the roots will grow. I do not recommend rooting in water. Rather use something very light like perlite or vermiculite. I think I would choose vermiculite because it will be easier to keep it slightly moist. Plant your cutting just one inch deep in this propagation medium. Use a small pot or shallow tray for this. Give it a little water and tent it with a plastic bag. You'll have to check the moisture level on the medium regularly and missed or give it just a little water to keep it slightly moist. Let The Roots develop and this should take as much as 2 months. When it's got good roots gradually a climatize it to room air by cutting small holes in the plastic increasingly over a week or so. Then it's ready to plant in a pot. I would recommend you check out an article called "Thai constellation the ultimate care guide (and how not to kill it). If you Google that it should come up. It's long but worth every minute of reading.
2 likesThanks everyone! I have it in water right now but I think I with switch to sphagnum moss. I hope to give an update soon!

Just put it in LECA and watch the roots go crazy. I have several different monsteras in LECA and they are all doing well, even though some were rescues. Also I agree with the rooting hormone!
1 likeI’ve had great luck in water with super thrive. Good luck!
