I had a nearly detached monstera leaf that looked worse for wear so I pulled it off and put it in some water. I think two months later it’s grown a new leaf and sprouted loads of roots. I read on chat gpt that no matter how many roots it grows it won’t grow in to a new monstera, is this the unfortunate truth or can I relive this plant if it’s jar impound.
Please don’t use ai, it can give misleading information and even kill your plants. This monstera is in fact growing into a new plant and you can even pot it up soon in some chunky soil!

You appear to have cut below a node, so you've propagated a whole new plant perfectly! I agree, pot it up eventually in a chunky soil mix and enjoy a clone of your original plant!
1 likePropagation is pretty simple and only has a handful of eventualities. If the plant doesn’t die and it grows roots, it narrows down to two: either the plant will root and never produce new foliage or it roots and grows new leaves. The new leaves would sprout from a node on the plant. For example, fiddle leaf fig leaves will root, but the leaves themselves have no nodes so they don’t produce new foliage. Sometimes when you propagate off of the same branch or strand of a plant, you get to a place where all of the nodes on that branch are “spent” (meaning there are no viable nodes left). Because the nodes are spent, the plant may root, but there’s nowhere for leaves to come from. In your case, not only did your plant root, it grew new leaves. It’s literally a new plant now. It can continue grow in water. You can plant it in its own new pot or add it back to the mother plant. Either way, make sure to acclimate it to soil by keeping it relatively moist for two weeks. If you add it back to the mother, you’d want to keep the spot you added it back into moist. You wouldn’t need to water the whole plant. No shade to you, but if ai is gonna be that far off with its advice, maybe don’t use it anymore and just ask us. I’ve joined the local plant groups on Facebook for my area to get advice and make planty connections. I watch houseplant enthusiasts on YouTube and have learned SO MUCH from their trial and error. Meanwhile, you described a propagated plant to chat and it told you a growing plant would never grow. Thats so wild to me
