Hey plant friends! I’ve already cut some vines from the philodendron, but I’m not totally sure where to divide them for proper propagation — or which method works best to get healthy roots. Where exactly should I cut each vine to make individual cuttings? (Is one node enough? Leaf required?) Best rooting method for each — water, moss, perlite, LECA? Tips for faster rooting or things to avoid?

You can usually take cuttings from the nodes- the little notches I circled and roots should sprout from there a lil root powder to help speed the process as well. I hope I’m helpful I’m pretty new to the plant world and sometimes I’m wrong

I would cut between the nodes to make your cuttings. Your cuttings need at least one node to work with in order to form new roots from it 😊 I’d highly recommend putting some Bonide’s rooting hormone powder on the nodes to speed up the rooting process, and you can either stick them into some fresh soil or perlite. I personally use cactus mix to keep the soil well-draining so that it can dry out more naturally between waterings. You don’t need a leaf, but you do need a node, and cutting it into more pieces so each piece has a node will increase the likelihood of more of your cuttings forming roots. Just cut between the nodes that Holly pointed out for you and you’ll be good to go 👍 Hope this helps.

I would cut and propagate in clean water. Philodendrons propagate well in water. I recommend leaving at least 2 nodes per cutting. Don’t trim too close to the node. Leave at least 1 inch of vine below the bottom node. Place in water putting at least 1 node below the water line. Remove all leaves below the water line to prevent rot and bacterial contamination. Add liquid rooting hormone to speed root growth. Place under a grow light or in bright indirect sunlight. Roots typically appear in 2-3 weeks. Fertilize when roots appear. Add SuperThrive plant vitamins. Plant in soil when the roots are at least 2 inches long. 🪴🍀

I always prop mine in water — you may want to let the cuttings dry out for a few hours to callous to further prevent rotting before placing them in whatever you’re propping them in
