Trying to see if I can develop some propagations from my mother’s spider plant. The original plant was overrun with baby props so we’ll see how many will survive and become my new little spiders. 🤷♂️🤦♂️🤩

I have a huge spider plant on my patio and I usually take the baby “spiders” and plant them right into soil in a pot & they take off! I’ve started a few. Love the plant cuz it’s in a huge planter pot. And I’ve had it for many years and it stays well thru winter on my patio. Easy and beautiful!

I have propped over 20 from my original spider plant (shes in an 8” pot now after i bought her from a grocery store in a 4” pot 2 years ago and two of her babies are now growing more too), into water for a while and then soil. Ive found a lot of success in letting the roots develop in water, and then transferring to potting soil with some more perlite mixed in once they look like this:

The size of those spider babies look like they’ll each need a 4 inch pot once the roots are ready!
1 likeThank you. Many of these starts have 3-4 baby starts in them seeing how many will actually start growing roots and I’ll go from there but for now, just seeing how many will actually start.
